8/24 - FAIL

So...this weekend sucked. Friday I overslept by like 3 hours on my core. Saturday, all day, I was very depressed. So Saturday and Sunday night, I reverted to a regular schedule. It's definitely not worth going through depression in order to get accustomed to this -- I've been generally happy for the past year, so the only thing I can think that would make me depressed is the schedule.

On the other hand, I started researching sleep deprivation and depression. And sleep deprivation actually CURES depression. "About 60% of patients, when sleep-deprived, show immediate recovery, with most relapsing the following night." So I wonder if it was my relapse Friday night that caused the crappiness.

Either way, I'm going to try something new this week. Instead of limiting my core, and napping when I'm tired, as I was doing before, I'm going to nap at least 3 times a day, then, for my core, just sleep until I wake up. And force myself to get up the first time I wake up. If I can pull this off, this should be a much easier method of adjusting.

In other news, I slept 7-8 hours last night, and still got tired about 3pm at work, so I laid down for a nap. It was one of my best naps yet. I woke up after about 12 minutes, and I think I might have actually dreamed.

8/21

Soo, yesterday was hell. I woke up really crappy around 8, took a nap soon after, another nap at 2, and another nap at 4, another at 9:30. Around the 9:30 nap, I just started feeling shitttttty. That feeling where all you wanna do is go to sleep? I had that x10. I actually woke up on time this morning, and stayed up for like 20 minutes. But it was a painful 20 minutes -- Could barely open my eyes, and just couldn't figure out ANYTHING to do. So I ended up going back to bed soon after, and sleeping 5-6 hours. I definitely need to make that super long TODO list of mind-numbing tasks, cause I just couldn't think of anything I could've gotten done this morning when I was in that state.

8/19

The past couple days have been kinda painful waking up from my core. Yesterday I ended up sleeping like 5.5 hours, and today like 6. I don't even know how -- I don't remember my alarms going off. I'm gonna have to switch to a harsher song on my computer.

On the other hand, my naps have been going well. I took two yesterday, one at 3, one at 8:30. The 8:30 one was awesome. I woke up after 15 minutes and felt refreshed.

I can't really figure out what to do about my core. I've been trying to shorten it to get it on my sleep cycle, but I really don't know how long mine is. Puredoxyk used 3 hours, which I tried copying last night.

Oh well, I'm gonna have to take a nap in an hour, I'm exhaaaaaausted.

Lastly, the past 20 hours or so my basic math skills have been really bad. I think I'm feelin' the sleep deprivation effects now.

11-11:30 - Napped fairly crappily
3pm-3:30 - Awesome nap. Fell asleep in 5 minutes, and slept the whole time. I can't wait until I start dreaming in my naps.

Still feeling kinda exhausted. And I noticed some sleep deprivation this morning -- I lost my balance while I was sitting at a stop in my car.

8/17

Soo, this weekend was a bust. After oversleeping Thursday morning, I figured I would just go back to a regular schedule for our Chicago trip on Friday and Saturday. Soo, last night I slept 6am-10:30, then took a nap about 11:15.

8/13

Failed last night. Slept from 3:30 to 10:30. Icky. I guess I'll wait until I start getting sleepy before I start back up. It's weird, because during the whole time I was on that schedule, I felt so productive, but now that I fell off, I really don't. I think I've got to get adapted to this schedule, just because of that.

8/12

I slept about 5am-9:30am. Woke up feeling like I needed another 14 hours of sleep, though I'm not feeling too bad now. I really need to figure out my sleep cycles, and how long I need to set the alarm for to not feel groggy.

Not sure what I'm going to do this weekend -- got a group going to Chicago, and I dunno how I'm going to get my naps in. I might need to lengthen my cores by a couple hours, and just depend on getting one nap a day. Really don't know, but I don't care to be a burden. I wish this hadn't have come so early in my schedule.
--
11:00 - Took a nap. Prolly a bit early to be doing that, but I'm just trying to do what my body tells me. I figure once I get better at napping, and my body gets a bit more used to it, then it'll start evening out. Little bit hazy right now, but otherwise fine.

17:30 - Couldn't get to sleep, but micronapped a bit.

8/11

Just woke up. I feel real crappy. Super groggy, and my eyes don't wanna open. I think the biggest mistake I made was sleeping for four hours instead of three, or four and a half. Assuming my sleeping patterns are the same as the usual, it should be evenly divisible by 90 minutes. Man, I kinda want one of these.
--
Laid down about 10:20 for about 10 minutes, 'till I got a phone call. Obviously didn't get to sleep, but I think it helped a bit anyway. Can't decide if I'm gonna come back here after lunch and get another nap before heading into work. Starting to feel the sleep deprivation a little in my eyes, though this is the first time I've worn my contacts in a while, so I'm sure that's contributing to it.

Last night was awesome. Since I laid down at 23:30, I wasn't sleepy as I usually am at 2am, so Ty and I had some awesome conversation. If this schedule results in that being a regular thing, it'd be worth it just for that.
--
16:30 -- Just had my best nap so far. I was gettin' pretty out of it, pulled my car to the side of the parking lot, turned on grelly's polynap mp3 v8, pulled something over my eyes, and rolled down my windows and opened a door to combat the heat. Laid there for about 5, and before I knew it, I was waking up to the wake-up water splashing. (Grelly's first method of waking you up). I feel 10x better after that nap.
--
8:30 -- Stopped by home real quick to grab one before heading out to a party. Didn't really sleep this time either.
--
24:30 -- My first publicly known nap -- I left a party for 30 min to walk out to my car and nap. Still didn't really get to sleep, though I'm getting much closer to it. I can easily feel myself falling asleep, and I did that prolly twice a minute on this nap.

In order for me to fall asleep, I have to make up these really weird visuals -- a snake playing DDR that got super famous, then the media wanted to take pictures of him, so they put lights on him and took a long exposure. Stuff like that that's completely unrelated. The difficulty I'm having with it right now is that I'm paying a little bit too much attention, so the quietening of the sounds around me is very obvious, and I end up snapping back awake. Once I figure out how not to do that, I think I'll be able to get to sleep regularly in under 5 minutes.
4:10am, Bout to lay down for my core. Kinda strange how today worked out. I had planned to take a nap around 3:30pm-4pm, and I started getting sleepy around 3. Then planned to take my second nap 9:30-10, and got sleepy around 9. Missed the 9:30 nap, but laid down about 11:30. Didn't sleep too well on my 3:30, but did actually sleep. For the evening nap, I didn't sleep at all. But zoned out a bit, and supposedly that's still useful.

Aight, sleepy, 'night!

Schedule for 8/10/2009

-Nap: 3:30-4
-Core: 7-11
-Nap 3:30P-4:30P. Had a hard time getting to sleep, so I kept snoozing, but I think I slept too long -- I'm grumpy. =/

The Beginning

So I've been wanting to hop on this rollercoaster for a long time, and I'm finally gonna try it. Starting tonight wasn't really my plan, but work insisted on keeping me up, so pull down the restraints, cuz here I go.

I'm going to start off with something like the Everyman sleep schedule. This is 3-4 hours of 'core' sleep, with 3-4 20-minute naps during the day, totaling around 4 hours.

Trying out uberman does seem fun though -- Mostly because of puredoxyk's wild descriptions of fun times. Oh, and I just ordered her book, ubersleep.

Anyway, took a nap about 3:30-4. I'm allocating 30 min for my naps for now, since it takes me a bit to get to sleep. I'm gonna go lay down for a 'core' here in a bit.
